Who are Dermalogica?
Dermalogica – The History
Dermalogica was started in 1986. It now boasts over 100,000 Dermalogica qualified therapists worldwide in 80+ countries and has won over 300 awards in the industry.
While the Dermalogica story begins in 1986, the force of change in the industry started in Los Angeles, circa 1983. Jane Wurwand, a tenured, United Kingdom-trained skin therapist new to the American “esthetician” industry, recognised that continuing skin and body therapy education was practically non-existent in the United States. While her training had been comprehensive and serious, US students entered the industry licensed yet under-trained, and worse, under-respected.
Jane put her education in action, opening a small classroom in Marina del Rey, California under the name The International Dermal Institute (IDI). She invited licensed skin therapists to get hands-on with the postgraduate training so critical to making them competitive in the business. Today, IDI is considered the international gold-standard for postgraduate skin and body therapy training with 37 locations worldwide.
dermalogica is born
While teaching at IDI, it didn’t take long for Jane to realize no product line embraced her belief of skin health as opposed to “beauty,” so she developed her own. And in 1986, Dermalogica was born. The vision was clear – a product line free of common irritants and ingredients that could cause breakouts (including lanolin, SD alcohol, mineral oil, artificial colors and fragrances) that would improve skin health, and were only available from qualified skin care professionals trained at The International Dermal Institute.
Every Dermalogica product is manufactured in the USA and available for purchase from qualified skin therapists

CACI Non Surgical Facelift
The word CACI means computer aided cosmetology instrument. The CACI treatment has had over 20 years of medical research behind it and is completely safe and painless. It is the original non surgical face and body lifting treatment devised by Dr Thomas Wing in the United States. Originally the treatment was used to treat patients for Bells Palsy and strokes as well as muscular injury, pain relief and for post burns treatment.
CACI uses a micro current which tones, lifts and re-educates the muscles back to their original position. By lifting the muscle, the sag of the skin is also corrected and deep and fine lines are improved as well as skin tone and hydration levels. The client feels very little if anything, there is no visible muscle contraction.
Advantages of micro current
- Increases Adenosine Tri Phosphate levels- a chemical reaction in the body which provides muscle energy giving a feeling of well being
- Increases fibroblast activity by up to 60%
- Increases protein synthesis by up to 73% (plumps and rejuvenates muscle)
- Increases membrane transport (cell permeability) by 30-40% (rehydrates skin and retains moisture better)
- Is virtually subsensory (client feels very little and there is no visible muscle contraction)
- It has beneficial healing effects (helps to heal scars and blemishes)
- Can be used around the eye area
The treatment lasts an hour and includes deep cleansing, exfoliation, lymphatic drainage, lifting procedure, massage and a treatment mask.
Recommended in a course of 10 treatments (£468 including 10% discount or £52 individually) 3 sessions in the first week then 2 sessions per week thereafter. Upon completion of the course, a monthly maintenance session is recommended.
*Please note neck treatments are to be carried out AFTER the 8th treatment only. This is because the muscles are much stronger and will pull weakened facial muscles down if they are not strengthened first.
*The typical electrical facial contra indications apply: Pacemaker, epilepsy, pregnancy, skin disease, metal plates or pins in the direct area, recent scar tissue, open or irritated skin in the area to be treated.
There are four stages to a CACI treatment
1. Gliding Golgi lifting
This is the most important stage and must be carried out accurately to obtain the maximum lift. Unlike other non-surgical machines the CACI does not stimulate motor points but communicates with the Golgi tendon. This tendon is present in every muscle and is responsible for keeping muscles toned and healthy. In order to reach the tendon the probes and roller bar must grab the belly of the muscle and the position held for five seconds. This stage takes approx. 20 minutes to complete.
2. ETR (enhancement of tissue repair)
ETR technique has amazing healing effects and is used in burns units of hospitals. Recent scar tissue fine lines and blemishes can be greatly improved. A combination of pads and probes are used during this technique.
This technique is a reminder to the muscles of what was performed during the gliding golgi technique.
Skin tissue work using a single polarity. Apply eye product and moisturiser and use the electrical polarity to push the active products into the skin.

Dermaplaning is an exfoliative treatment performed using a scalpel to “shave” away the outermost layers of the skin. This process is painless and very safe but is only recommended for treatment of the face (not the nose or décolleté). Not only will you achieve smoother, brighter skin but this also helps remove peach fuzz. Despite popular belief, the hair does not grow back thicker.
Dermaplaning, also known as blading, skin resurfacing or skin/epidermal levelling, removes the outer most layers of dead skin cells, leaving the skin immediately smooth, supple and vibrant. It is a non-traumatic method of skin rejuvenation.
Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz). According to common beauty lore, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, and Cleopatra all shaved their faces.
Dermaplaning is a favourite in the entertainment industry, especially among models and actresses. The reason is because it eliminates that annoying peach fuzz that cakes up in makeup and can be enhanced by harsh production lighting and high-definition cameras.
Dermaplaning is essentially another form of exfoliation. With each stroke, you are sloughing off dead skin cells that sit on the surface and the constant exfoliation may aid in keeping wrinkles at bay.
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive procedure similar to shaving in which a therapist uses a sharp surgical, sterile blade to gently scrape the outer layers of dead, dull skin cells. After exfoliating with Dermaplaning, the skin is left smoother and, with continued treatments, fine lines are significantly minimised.
This is a great treatment to offer to clients who are pregnant or nursing who want a deep exfoliation, but are not allowed to use peeling agents on their skin because of the risk that the chemicals will be absorbed into the blood stream, and may be transferred to the foetus or the child.
It is also a first choice for clients who have excess vellus hair on the skin. This hair often causes a build-up of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing the hair gives the client healthier looking skin.
Although merely an old wives’ tale, many patients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after Dermaplaning. This is not the case. As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment. Any thicker, darker terminal hair should be waxed/tweezed before planning.
Removing epidermal skin also allows products to penetrate more readily into the deeper layers. Many aestheticians recommend this treatment to prepare the skin for other procedures such as laser treatments or deep chemical peels.
Dermaplaning is most often used on clients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment results in a more refined, smooth, “glowing” appearance.
Dermaplaning is performed on the face only. We do not plane the eyelids, nose, or chest.
Dermaplaning can be performed every 2-3 months for maintenance and proper skin exfoliation. For correction of acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, and skin rejuvenation purposes, it may be performed at closer intervals.
What you can expect
Dermaplaning is a painless procedure and can be compared to the sensation of shaving legs, but in this case, it’s on the face.
First, the therapist will cleanse and thoroughly dry the skin. Next, they will gently support an area of the skin taut with one hand, and hold a sterile 10-gauge blade at a 45-degree angle in the other hand and use short, swift swift strokes to scrape off dead skin cells and peach fuzz.
There is no downtime associated with this procedure. The importance of using sunscreen to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation will be highlighted.
Clients may have some redness and temporary sensitivity. Some post treatment peeling may occur as the treatment has been followed by an exfoliating enzyme peel.
